Mayor Lisa Brown to sign economic development executive order

SPOKANE, Wash. – Mayor Lisa Brown will sign an executive order on Wednesday which aims to bring additional economic development to the city.

According to the Spokesman-Review, the city government initially launched a plan to make the city a prominent hub of aerospace technology development in Oct. 2023. Using a new pool of federal funding signed into law by President Biden in 2022, the city hopes to create additional tech jobs.

Spokane’s economy had a strong year in 2023, but growth is expected to slow in 2024 according to the Spokane Journal of Business.

Brown’s Wednesday executive order will reportedly make the approval process for new projects more efficient.

“She [will sign] a new executive order to streamline permitting and development processes related to major economic development projects through a new Rapid Response Team as part of Spokane’s Tech Hub Initiative,” the mayor’s office said.

The signing will take place at the Spokane Central Library at 9:30 am.
