In an email to the Mead High School community, Principal Kimberly Jensen said:
“Panther Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I share sad news with you — Panther Nation has lost one of its own today. Out of respect for the student’s family, we are sharing no further information at this time.
Our district crisis team, along with our school counseling team, will be available to support students and staff as we navigate this loss. The crisis team will be on-site Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, and as needed after the Thanksgiving break.
Hearing news like this can bring up many emotions and remind us of other losses. Grief can show up in unexpected ways, and it’s important to remember that everyone grieves differently.

The email also provided links to resources available for students and families.
According to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the student was driving west on West Rutter Parkway near North Dorset Road when the car veered off the road and struck a large tree.
West Rutter Parkway and North Dorset Road were closed for two hours or longer while crews investigated the scene. Deputies reported the student was declared dead at the scene, and no other people were injured.
The Spokane County Traffic Unit and the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash and will release further details as available.
