Missing Indigenous woman found after SWAT standoff, suspect at large

SPOKANE, Wash. – A Monday night SWAT investigation in Spokane’s East Central neighborhood ended with police safely recovering Amanda Pakootas, an indigenous woman who went missing in Airway Heights on Saturday.

The man suspected in Pakootas’ disappearance, 51-year-old Joseph Parisien, has not been located according to the Spokane Police Department (SPD) and was last seen on foot around 6 pm. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call (509) 456-2233.

An initial missing indigenous person alert was issued by Washington State Patrol on Saturday after Pakootas purportedly left a friend’s home unwillingly around noon.

A silver 2013 Toyota 4Runner connected to Pakootas’ disappearance was seen in Spokane earlier on Monday

The SPD investigation was conducted near South Nelson Street and East 4th Avenue and included the Federal Bureau of Investigation Salish Safe Trails Task Force.

Pakootas is currently safe and in the custody of law enforcement according to SPD.
