MISSOULA, Mont. – The Missoula Montana Airport now offers a new way to explore its facilities beyond security without needing a plane ticket. This new feature is called the Explore MSO pass and is available to anyone interested.
The pass is available between 7:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. daily. It is free, but travelers must register through the airport’s website. Requests must be submitted and approved by 8:00 P.M. the day before the intended visit.
Tim Damrow, deputy director of the Missoula Montana Airport, explained that this move came in response to community feedback.
“So since then [9/11] and really over the last handful of years we’ve heard from several passengers and users of the airport that it’s something that they miss. Whether it’s coming in to watch airplanes, enjoying something at the restaurant, or just seeing a loved one off,” Damrow said.
There are a few guidelines in place. All visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Guests must have their requests verified and approved by the TSA before moving beyond security.
Damrow also noted that the Missoula initiative follows a successful implementation at the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco, Washington. While this new pass is not directly tied to the airport’s growth plans, such as new parking and an updated terminal and baggage claim, it is part of the airport’s commitment to community engagement.
