Moses Lake Fire Department seeks to quell rumor that firefighters started a fire

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — The City of Moses Lake Fire Department took to Facebook Tuesday afternoon to quell rumors that firefighters started a 60-acre fire near the Fairchild Cinema.

The fire burned on undeveloped land early Monday morning and firefighters were able to prevent it from doing any damage to the several structures in the area.

“Please note that Moses Lake Fire Department did not ignite this fire,” the department wrote on Facebook. “As firefighters we have taken an oath to protect all people in our community as well as their property.”

A search through the shares and comments of the fire department and the union representing Moses Lake firefighters didn’t turn up any suggestions that firefighters were responsible for the fire.

Instead, comments on recent posts by the firefighter’s union showed community members commending firefighters for their hard work and speculating about other potential causes.

The department noted the firefighters who battled the wildfire had already responded to multiple fires and 15 calls for medical attention that night.
