MOSES LAKE, Wash. – A Moses Lake man was slapped with five years in federal prison for helping setting a car on fire.
According to the US Department of Justice, 25-year-old David Maybee was with another man who poured gasoline on a parked Audi in front of Motel 6 on Jan. 21, 2022. Maybee and the individual who lit the fire both expected to be rewarded by a drug dealer for destroying the car.
“Follow-up investigation showed that the three individuals, to include Maybee, acted on the behalf of a local drug dealer, and the vehicle was torched over an outstanding drug debt. The three were expecting a cash reward from the drug dealer for their actions,” a Justice Department media release said.
Maybee also broke into a Moses Lake home a month later to steal guns, resulting in a separate criminal trial. He will serve three additional years of supervised release after he leaves prison.
