EPHRATA, Wash. – Two men from Moses Lake were arrested after police found them trespassing saying they were looking to borrow a wrench.

A Grant County Sheriff’s deputy conducting extra patrols in response to recent rural break-ins noticed headlights in a field around midnight on Friday in the 7000 block of Martin Road Northwest.

The deputy stopped a 2003 Chevy pickup and found Donald Glenn Smith, 52, and Gabriel Garcia De Leon, 31, inside.

Smith claimed they had mechanical problems and stopped to ‘borrow a wrench’, despite not knowing the property owner.

The deputy contacted the property owner, who confirmed that no one should have been on the property at that time.

The owner requested that Smith and De Leon be charged with trespassing. Both men were taken to Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree trespassing.
