MOSES LAKE, Wash. – The Moses Lake Police Department (MLPD) traded fire with a suspect on Saturday night, leaving an officer and the suspect injured.

According to the department, the shooting happened around 8:30 pm at the Moses Lake Motel 6 while officers responded to reports of a fight or argument.

“There was an exchange of gunfire between a suspect and police. An MLPD officer was struck with a bullet, underwent surgery and is recovering,” MLPD said.

The person police pursued was also injured, though MLPD did not make clear whether that was a result of gunshots. NonStop Local has reached out to the department for additional information.

The Central Basin Investigation Team, an Grant County investigative team that investigates police shootings and major uses of force by officers, will evaluate the Saturday shooting according to MLPD. The department has yet to confirm whether the incident was a police shooting or the name of the officer who was shot.
