Motorcyclist injured in crash during street race near Division Street in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – A 20-year-old motorcyclist was badly injured after witnesses spotted a group of motorcyclists weaving through traffic ending in a crash.

The Spokane Police Department responded to the area of Euclid Avenue and Division Street around 7:30 p.m. July 30, on reports of a crash between a motorcyclist and a car.

Officer arrived to find the driver down in the roadway and found the motorcycle two blocks from where the crash occurred.

Police quickly transported the driver to the hospital for his injuries and closed the road to investigate the incident.

Witnesses told police they saw a group of motorcyclists racing in the street and weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed.

According to investigators the driver was traveling well over twice the posted speed limit at the time of the crash.

SPD also said that due to speed the driver was unable to maintain control and struck another car.

In a statement the Spokane police reminded the community of the importance in safe driving.

“SPD would like to remind everyone of the dangers associated with this type of activity on the roadway, which increases in the summer months.” SPD said. “In this case, the 20-year-old motorcycle driver not only suffered severe injuries, but endangered other drivers and pedestrians as well.”

The condition of the drivers involved is unknown at this time.
