SPOKANE, Wash. – Dylan Lipsker, a local artist, celebrated the grand opening of his new gallery in downtown Spokane. The event was marked by an emotional experience, with unexpected support from the local homeless community.
Lipsker, who turned to art as a form of self-healing after an accident nearly took his life, shared his thoughts about opening his gallery downtown. He acknowledged potential interactions with the homeless population outside his building.
“I was anticipating having to ask somebody to step away to not sit in front,” Lipsker said.
However, he was met with kindness and compassion from those residing outside Big City Art. Lipsker described a touching moment during the gallery’s opening.
“Today I pulled a paper down and they knocked on the window, smiled and told me that they were going to take off, but they didn’t want to be here for it. They were just gonna let me have my… and I was like let me give you a hug,” he said.
The support from the community deeply moved Lipsker. He reflected on the happiness he felt during the event.
“I was here yesterday and I didn’t even realize it I had like tears rolling down my eyes and my face rather and it was happy. It was like this next level happy,” Lipsker stated.
Lipsker hopes his new gallery will bring joy and healing to others, as art has done for him. He sees the gallery as a testament to overcoming hardship and pursuing dreams.
