SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Sister Cities and Friendship City celebrated Expo ‘74 and the new friendship with Malay, Philippines, on Sunday at Riverfront Park.
The event started with a parade of Spokane’s five Sister Cities and Friendship City, where each city showcased music, dance, and food from its culture. Attendees got to see a Chinese Dragon, St. Patrick of Spokane and Marco Polo. Mayor Lisa Brown spoke at the event, which was followed by a procession to Sister Cities Connections, a dedication of a new ornamental bench, and several guest speakers.
The event highlighted the unique cultures that have integrated into Spokane over the years through the Sister-City program. The program emphasizes connections and exchanges through education, culture and business.
