New rule requires airlines to improve assistance for disabled passengers

The U.S. Department of Transportation has introduced a new rule aimed at enhancing the travel experience for airline passengers with disabilities.

This rule mandates that airlines adhere to stricter standards for providing safe and dignified assistance, especially for those who use wheelchairs.

Airlines must ensure their employees and contractors receive annual training, including hands-on instruction, to assist passengers and handle wheelchairs. This training must be completed by mid-June 2026.

Additionally, the rule emphasizes prompt assistance for passengers with disabilities, ensuring they receive timely support during their travels.
