New sports courts coming to Spokane’s Underhill Park

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane’s Underhill Park in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood will have newly renovated basketball courts and pickleball courts this fall.

Construction began on Monday and will replace the previous aging courts in an over $620,000 dollar project funded by the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation.

If weather permits the city predicts the courts will be done by the end of the year and landscaping to be completed in the spring.

The old courts will be closed during construction and the next closest park courts are at Grant Park in the South Perry District.

“Investing in our neighborhood parks – amenities like playgrounds, restrooms, and sport courts – is our big focus right now,” the interim city administrator Garrett Jones said. “We heard from the community how important these facilities are for health and wellness, and for building neighborhood connectivity.”

The project was also made possible through support of Dick’s Sporting Goods, No-Li Brewhouse, and the Spokane Hoopfest Association.
