**Washington lawmakers consider expanding gun-free zones**

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington lawmakers are focusing on several bills in the current legislative session, including one that aims to enhance gun restrictions across the state.

Senate Bill 5098 proposes to designate public buildings, parks, playgrounds, and other areas where children are present as gun-free zones.

Last year, lawmakers passed a bill requiring aquariums, zoos, libraries, and courthouses to ban guns.

If Senate Bill 5098 passes, individuals caught violating the new restrictions could face a $5,000 fine or up to one year in prison.
