No charges for Spokane Police Department officers who shot suspect in 2022

SPOKANE, Wash. – Seven Spokane Police Department officers will not face charges after they opened fire on a suspect in Oct. 2022.

All officers were all found to have shot at fentanyl trafficking suspect Israel Garcia justifiably by Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell.

Garcia was not killed in the shooting and

Haskell continued his trend of with his Tuesday findings.

The Spokane Police Department has the second highest rate of police killings per population in the United States behind St. Louis according to Mapping Police Violence US.

has criticized Haskel for never leveling a charge against a police officer who used deadly force during his tenure as the county’s leading prosecutor.

The officers who fired at Garcia were Corrigan Mohondro, Juan Rodriguez, Brandon Lynch, Brandon Fabian, Daniel Valencia, Adres Valencia, and Shawn Maguire.

Haskell’s office said that police shot at Garcia only after he fired shots at police from his vehicle and injured an officer.

“Police fired back multiple times in self and mutual defense,” Haskell said.
