SPOKANE, Wash. – The NomNom gas station and convenience store in Spokane Valley caught fire early Monday morning, causing it to close down.
The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to 15019 East Trent around 2:50 a.m. after a store employee called 911 to report smoke inside the store.
Employees did not initially see any flames inside the store but were evacuated for safety reasons.
SVFD worked to locate the source of the fire in heavy smoke conditions and cut a hole in the roof to get better access and help with ventilation.
As the smoke cleared through the roof, crews inside were able to better see the source and located the fire in an interior stud bay wall. The fire continued to burn inside the walls of the store until crews could completely tackle it.
Fire crews worked to contain the fire quickly, leaving minimal damage to the store’s interior, but SVFD did close the store due to smoke damage.
The store experienced a power outage on Sunday after lightning activity and stormy weather conditions, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The reopening of the store has not been set, and no one was injured in the fire.
