North Idaho high school students have new opportunity to explore careers in firefighting

HAYDEN, Idaho – The Northern Lakes Fire District (NFLD) is reintroducing an aspiring cadet training program for high school students.

According to NFLD, the program will last 72 hours and include a three day mini-academy which will include several emergency and fire response drills.

“As we approach the summer, we invite interested youths to watch for our upcoming recruitment advertisements for the Fall 2024 class,” NFLD said.

The program is open to high school students in northern Idaho and will train the next generation of Gem State fire fighters.

In addition to reopening a youth fire academy, a demonstration of the district’s fire boat will take place on May 16 at the Hayden Lake Marina at 5pm in honor of
