SPOKANE, Wash. — A man who was shot and killed by Spokane police officers after allegedly shooting at officers while they were at the scene of a potential arson was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner on Tuesday.

Alan Jenks, 38, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds in his torso and extremities, according to the medical examiner. His manner of death was listed as homicide.

Jenks was the sixth person killed by police in Spokane County so far in 2024.

On Sunday, police and firefighters responded to a house fire on West Dean. According to police, Jenks was uncooperative as they investigated the fire, and began walking away.

Officers tried to detain Jenks, but the police department said he resisted and fired a gun. Police returned fire, striking Jenks multiple times, and ultimately killing him.
