SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane River near the Green Street Bridge remains closed during the busy construction season in Spokane.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) stated that the North Spokane Corridor Project will be keeping the river closed due to safety concerns.
As summer approaches, more people will head to the river to cool off and enjoy water sports such as kayaking, canoeing and swimming.
Although other parts of the river may remain open for recreational activities, this section of the river will be closed to all water activities until the project is completed, which is expected to be done by 2025.
WSDOT emphasized that the closure is clearly marked, but some people are choosing to ignore the safety warnings and enter the river anyway, compromising the construction zone.
The construction zone is also marked 100 feet up and downstream from Green Street to help ensure public safety.
