SPOKANE, Wash. – As the official media partner of Expo ‘74, NonStop Local KHQ is giving away free posters to celebrate the city of Spokane on Saturday, April 27.
The posters will be available for pickup between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at 1201 W Sprague.
Created with the intention of bringing diverse communities together, this year’s Expo ‘74 celebration poster represents Spokane through the expression of the pillar art.
While each of the poster’s five unique and brightly-colored pillars include individual elements representing Spokane’s variety of communities, an overall unity is also represented by the cohesion of color and shape throughout the designs, according to Visit Spokane’s marketing manager, Hannah Deubel.
During the creative process, each pillar had the opportunity to contribute their feedback into the visuals representing their pillar and what was most important to them.
The orange pillar in the center of the poster is represented by Spokane’s local tribes. According to Deubel, the Tribal pillar chairs chose to represent their pillar by depicting “The Children of the Sun” through the salmon and sun art.
The remaining four pillars include a blue sky featuring Spokane’s famous Great Northern Clock Tower and presenting flags from various countries, a green nature scene featuring trees and a butterfly, an orange and green pillar showcasing Spokane’s plethora of outdoor activities and sports and a pink pillar representing Spokane’s artistry, featuring a guitar and a cup of coffee.
