SPOKANE, Wash. – The weather is getting warmer, the sun is out, and Spokanites are starting to think about enjoying some time around the fire. But there’s some regulations you should know before you burn.
According to the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, recreational fires in Spokane County cannot be larger than three feet by two feet, and must be at least 25 feet away from any structures.
A person capable of extinguishing the fire must attend to the blaze at all times and smoke may not cause damage to any neighboring property.
Burning treated wood, gasoline or pressurized cans is dangerous and bad for the environment. Only burn firewood and charcoal and never throw trash into a fire.
The seven scouting ‘Leave No Trace’ principles are a helpful set of guidelines for treating the environment with respect this summer, including working to minimize the footprint of all campfires.
If you have any questions about burn regulations before enjoying a fire, you can call the Spokane Clean Air burning information line at (509) 477-4710.
