CLEARWATER COUNTY, Idaho. – A Spokane pilot was killed, and his sons were injured in a plane crash in Idaho.
The plane crashed around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday after the Idaho Division of Aeronautics received an emergency signal from the plane about 5 miles north of Elk River.
Authorities responded with EMS and helicopter units initially, and a 911 call reported that the two sons had been picked up along Basin Road.
The passengers, identified as the 21-year-old and 14-year-old sons of the pilot, Brian Orourk, 54, from Spokane, told authorities that the plane had crashed and caught fire.
Due to the fire, the boys could not reach their father who was trapped inside the aircraft.
The boys were quickly transported to Sacred Heart in Spokane by LifeFlight, and their conditions are unknown.
The plane was a small single-engine Cessna and was located by the Hillcrest helicopter but could not land near the crash site.
Another helicopter team named Two Bear Air joined the rescue and successfully hoisted personnel down to the crash site, where they discovered that Orourk had died.
Authorities managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread.
The crash is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and the NTSB.
