Planned Parenthood endorses three eastern Washington legislative candidates

SPOKANE, Wash. – Planned Parenthood has endorsed three Democrats for Washington State Senate.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Greater Washington and Northern Idaho, the political organizing wing of Planned Parenthood in the Inland Northwest, announced the endorsements last week.

State Representative Marcus Riccelli, who is not rerunning for his current role to pursue Senator Andy Billig’s current seat, took home an endorsement after no one registered to challenge him in the legislative race.

Jim Mayhew and Maria Beltran, both of whom are challenging sitting Republican state senators for their seats in mostly rural legislative districts, also secured endorsements.

The endorsements take place in the context of an election year in which Democrats have touted the party’s platform of reproductive healthcare access and a cohort of conservative Republicans have argued for a national ban on abortion, in vitro fertilization and contraception.
