OTHELLO, Wash. – The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received information about a potential threat to McFarland Middle School on Thursday.

The threat was believed to stem from unresolved gang-related activity between two rival gangs that occurred over the past weekend.

Parents and children of the intended or potential targets were immediately notified.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Othello School District administration and the Othello Police Department, took the threat seriously.

Deputies quickly collected information and launched an investigation. Several children were contacted, including who police believe initiated the threat.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities determined that the threat is not credible.

Local authorities still encouraged anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious or potentially dangerous to speak up.

The Othello Police Department is aware of the situation and will increase its presence around the schools. Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional support.
