COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The US Forest Service will undertake several prescribed burns across the Idaho Panhandle National Forests in the upcoming weeks.

According to the Forest Service, early September offers favorable conditions for prescribed burns, which will kick-off Wednesday.

“The Lone Cabin project on the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District will be the first ignitions for the season…Smoke will likely be visible from I-90 and US 95 in the Coeur d’Alene area,” the Forest Service said.

Pedestrians should avoid burning areas both while they are underway and for several days afterward. Local trails and road access points may be closed as needed to ensure public safety.
