President Biden wants Governor Inslee to join his administration if he wins second term

OLYMPIA, Wash. – President Joe Biden signaled his intention of bringing Governor Jay Inslee (D) into his administration if he wins a second term during a speech to a room of private donors on Sunday.

Inslee is not rerunning for governor in 2024, meaning he would ostensibly be available to accept a cabinet position.

“I warn you all, if you like seeing [Inslee] around Washington State, don’t elect me. But if you…don’t mind having him leave this state a little bit, elect me, because I’m going to try to grab him to get him to Washington. You think I’m kidding. I’m not,” Biden said.

Inslee’s name was mentioned for an environmental position in Biden cabinet conservations in 2020, but the Washington governor ultimately remained focused on climate policy in the Evergreen State.

Now that he is not looking to hold the governor’s office for another term, it is unclear whether Inslee would be amicable to the possibility of leading the US Environmental Protection Agency or another major ecological department.
