ATLANTA (AP) — Two Georgia voter advocacy groups founded by Democrat Stacey Abrams and led by Raphael Warnock before he was elected to the U.S. Senate have admitted to campaign finance violations and will pay a $300,000 fine. The New Georgia Project and its affiliated New Georgia Project Action Fund failed to register as an independent campaign committee and failed to disclose its contributions and spending. Abrams stepped down before running for governor and said she wasn’t involved. Warnock was the New Georgia Project’s CEO but spokesperson says he didn’t make “compliance decisions.” The Georgia Ethics Commission director calls Wednesday’s ethics fine the largest in state history.
