LOS ANGELES (AP) — Progressive Los Angeles County district attorney George Gascón is running for reelection against a former prosecutor who says his criminal justice reform policies have gone too far. Nathan Hochman is a former federal prosecutor who calls himself a “hard middle” candidate. They finished first and second, respectively, in a crowded primary to advance to Tuesday’s general election. Hochman has attacked Gascón for his policies against prosecuting juveniles as adults and seeking sentencing sentencing enhancements. He says people are tired of crime and unsafe neighborhoods. Gascón defends his policies, saying Hochman doesn’t understand the job and is using fearmongering tactics.
