PULLMAN, Wash. — The man who died in a fire Tuesday morning in Pullman has been identified.
According to the Whitman County Coroner’s Office, the man has been identified as Steven Sargent, 60. The coroner’s office said that the cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
. A neighbor reported smelling burning plastic and seeing smoke.
Firefighters said the building sustained extensive damage, but they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby apartment buildings.
Fire investigators are working with city building inspectors to determine whether the structure was an approved residence. They noted that a power line was connected to a nearby apartment and that an electric meter was attached to the damaged building.
