PULLMAN, Wash. – The YMCA of the Palouse will close at the end of August due to financial issues.
According to the organization, increasing operating costs and struggles remaining competitive in the labor market ultimately led the Board of Directors to decide upon closure.
“We’ve faced many challenges over our 130 years in Pullman, but this is by far the toughest.
We are deeply grateful for everyone who has been a part of our journey,” board member Katie Van Wyngarden said.
YMCA summer camps will continue through August 23, but no childcare services will take place after that date.
The closure will leave Pullman without a YMCA facility, with the closest alternative being the Student Recreation Center for Washington State University students nearby.
