Rathdrum man receives 10 years in prison for accidentally killing cousin

RATHDRUM, Idaho – A Rathdrum man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on April 29 for vehicular manslaughter after a drunk driving incident resulted in the death of his cousin.

According to the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office, Emil Clyde Joe was drunk driving in late July 2023 with his 19-year-old cousin sitting on a bucket between him and the passenger seat.

Joe collided with a tractor in front of him, resulting in the death of his cousin. The prosecutor’s office says that he had a blood alcohol content well above the legal maximum at the time.

Joe will be eligible for parole after serving the first two years of his sentence.
