REAL ID requirements for flying start in 6 months

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane International Airport reminded passengers this week that there are six months left until REAL ID is required to board a flight.

The REAL ID Act requires minimum levels of security for state IDs. On May 7, 2025, new security standards will be enacted, making previous Washington State licenses invalid for boarding flights.

REAL ID certified identification cards include Washington’s enhanced driver’s license, enhanced id cards, US military IDs, American passports and passport cards. The full list of acceptable IDs can be found on the TSA’s website.

If you are still in need of a REAL ID qualified form of identification for flying, check the Washington State Department of Licensing for more information.
