SPOKANE, Wash, – October is Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) month so Nonstop Local spoke with MultiCare’s Oncologist surgeon Dr. Heidi Richardson about signs that you should get checked out for breast cancer.

Dr. Richardson says there are several signs that you should go get a breast exam, but just because you have a sign does not mean you have cancer.

She says you should get checked out if you have any of the following:

Lump or lumps in your breasts or underarm areaDimples on your breastBreasts that change sizeSkin changes to your breast/sA rash on your breast/sNipples going inward

“Talk to [your] primary health provider,” said Dr. Richardson. “Again, a lot of these things can be caused from benign things that are non-cancerous, but anything new should be checked out…”

Dr. Richardson says catching these things early is really important. Know your body and listen to it and it could help you in the long run.
