Red flag warning and dust advisories issued for eastern Washington ahead of cold front

SPOKANE, Wash. — A red flag warning has been issued starting Thursday night for the Palouse area, along with dust advisories for the Spokane area on Friday.

An aggressive cold front will bring wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph, creating potential for blowing dust and reduced visibility (1/2 to 1 mile) across Spokane County, Lincoln County, Grant County, Adams County and parts of Chelan County. Elevated fire danger is also expected throughout the afternoon in the Palouse, Snake River area and Hells Canyon.

While there is a possibility of rain with this system, forecast models vary, predicting total amounts between 0.10 and 0.25 inches.

Daytime highs will range from the mid to upper 60s, with overnight lows in the low to upper 30s.

Winds are expected to subside overnight from Friday into Saturday, allowing the weather alert to expire Friday evening. This will set the stage for a quiet weekend, with highs anticipated to return to the 70s by Sunday.
