RED LODGE, Mont. – Red Lodge Search and Rescue and Carbon County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a person who slipped into Rosebud Creek while crossing below Rimrock Lake and was washed away on Friday afternoon. A bystander reported that the person was washed away into the rapidly moving East Rosebud Creek on Friday, July 12, 2024, according to the Facebook post by Red Lodge Fire Rescue published on Sunday, July 14. The rescue team and the Sheriff’s Office responded to Rimrock Lake in the East Rosebud drainage soon after they received the report, but they have not yet found the missing person. There are ground crews, helicopters and other resources all working on the search still as of Sunday afternoon. If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to call Carbon County Dispatch at 406-446-1234.

The missing individual has been identified, and the Carbon County Sheriff’s office has been in touch with his family, but the identity has not yet been made available to the public. Red Lodge Search and Rescue notes that the bridge at Rimrock Lake has not been rebuilt since it was washed out during floods in 2022. “Crossing the creek without the bridge is extremely hazardous and is strongly discouraged,” the Facebook post said. NonStop will update this article with more information when more information is released.
