INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Jim Banks has won Indiana’s open U.S. Senate seat, defeating Democrat and political newcomer Valerie McCray. Banks is a congressman who’s an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump. He passed on seeking another term in northeastern Indiana’s heavily Republican 3rd District to seek the state’s open U.S. Senate seat. Republican Sen. Mike Braun decided not to mount a Senate reelection bid to instead run for Indiana governor. Fellow Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb is term-limited. McCray is a clinical psychologist from Indianapolis. Her name was appearing on a statewide ballot for the first time.
