CHATTAROY, Wash. — The Riverside Elementary School paraeducator and high school coach arrested for multiple child sex crimes will now face federal charges.
Suspect Dallas Shuler, 28, was employed by the Riverside School District when, on May 6, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified by the Operation Rescue Me/Endangered Child Alert Program of illicit material on Shuler’s phone.
The alert said a Snapchat video on Shuler’s phone showed two boys engaging in sexually explicit content, and Shuler’s face could be seen answering a call.
On May 7, Shuler was contacted by the FBI at Riverside Elementary School, where he admitted to watching and distributing child sex abuse material. Shuler claimed he had never done anything physical with a student or any other minor.
Shuler confessed to contacting at least 25 minors for sexually explicit content, primarily through social media.
A search warrant was obtained to seize Shuler’s laptop and two cell phones, and another detective questioned Shuler.
During questioning, Shuler admitted to having sexual contact with two boys around the age of 14 that he met on Snapchat.
He said he convinced the first boy he had a girl who would participate in a threesome, and met him at University High School, where he said he sexually assaulted the teen.
Shuler admitted to meeting another boy and sexually assaulting him in exchange for giving the child vapes.
The Affidavit said detectives located many images and videos of child sex abuse material on Shuler’s devices. Some of the material was collected in the last month, including graphic content of a baby.
Shuler was arrested on first-degree possession of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, first-degree dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Shuler faces an additional federal charge of receipt of child pornography. These charges come with at least a five-year sentence.
Shuler remains in the Spokane County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
