Roadwork hurting Mead business

While construction crews stay busy repairing Market Street Tuesday, Gary Geffre is hoping his business picks up.

“I don’t want it to get any slower than it already is that’s for sure,” said Geffre, who’s owned the Lariat Inn and Restaurant for nine years.

Geffre says as this road started to disappear, so did some of his customers.

“They see the construction and are not sure how to get here,” said Geffre. “So they tend to not come out here and will wait for it [construction] to get over with.”

The road repair work started two weeks ago, and Geffre says business has gone down about 20 percent.

“We’ve talked about changing hours by opening a little later, he said.”

Geffre says the biggest reason they are able to keep their doors open is because of the people who live in the area.

“We still have all our locals who know how to get here they come in and support us,” he said. “We’ve had a few construction guys come in and eat breakfast and lunch so they’re doing okay.”
