Roommate stabbing leads to Spokane apartment standoff, suspect appears in court

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man accused of stabbing his roommate and fleeing from police made his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.

Michael Sam, 27, is facing charges of first-degree assault following an incident that occurred on Saturday. According to court documents, Sam allegedly stabbed his roommate in the neck at their apartment.

Court docs said that the victim is reportedly facing a life-threatening injury. After the stabbing, Sam is said to have punched and threatened to kill several other people present at the scene.

. Spokane police said that he remained there for several hours before eventually surrendering.

During the standoff, nearby apartments were evacuated, and a section of I-90 was temporarily shut down. Sam is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.
