WASHINGTON STATE.-A Department of Justice grant will help keep schools in Northeastern Washington safe.
The DOJ awarded $1 million to the Northeast Washington Educational Service District, which oversees schools across seven counties in Washington.
“All children deserve the right to attend school and learn in a secure environment,” said Vanessa Waldref, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. “Teachers should be free to do the critical work of educating students without fear for their safety.”
The ESD plans to use the funding for threat assessment training for school staff, law enforcement and the community to foster safe learning environments across the 59 districts and seven private schools in the ESD.
Funding will also allow the ESD to hold an annual School Safety Summit to provide advanced training and the latest research on school safety, according to the DOJ.
