SCRAPS Spooktacular Adoption Event

Over the weekend, eighty seven cats were brought in to SCRAPS and placed in our already full feline adoption room.   That makes a frightening number of cats that SCRAPS needs to find homes for immediately. From October 31st to November 4th,  SCRAPS will be having a Spooktacular Adoption event with all adult cats (felines six months and older) available for $15.  That is less than half their normal adoption price but still includes spay/neuter, license, microchip and first round of vaccinations.

“It’s scary how many cats are still coming in our doors,” said Janet Dixon, SCRAPS Special Program Manager.  “Before Halloween SCRAPS usually sees a decrease in our cat population but it hasn’t slowed down at all and we project another large influx to come in because of trick or treating by the end of the week.”

Every year, SCRAPS takes in over 6,000 cats – most of those arrive during the summer months.  Many of these cats and kittens are people pets but they have no license or microchip and can’t be returned home. In Spokane County only 3% of cat owners come to find their pets when they are lost.

Many more of these fabulous felines are abandoned or are the off spring of people’s pets and live their entire lives on the streets.  By adopting at SCRAPS, you are also making room for other cats here at the shelter and helping pay for spay/neuter services that will end overpopulation here in Spokane County.

Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) is a progressive municipal animal care and protection agency serving the unincorporated areas of Spokane County, the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Deer Park, Fairfield, Liberty Lake, Medical Lake, Millwood and Rockford.  SCRAPS has deputized animal protection officers extensively trained to enforce animal laws and respond to emergency situations. SCRAPS is also active in educational and community outreach programs and is dedicated to its continued investment in innovative behavioral programs.
