SPOKANE, Wash. – Semi Bird was nominated as the Washington GOP’s candidate for governor on Saturday. His campaign celebrated the win on social media by drawing a parallel between the gubernatorial hopeful and Mahatma Gandhi.

The Monday post features an image of Bird ascending a set of stairs attached to a Gandhi quote: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Bird was initially in danger of having his eligibility for the nomination withheld due to his alleged failure to disclose a 1993 misdemeanor conviction to the state GOP. However, after a tense inter-party dispute,

Reichert and Bird are both still running for governor, meaning two prominent Republican candidates could appear on the August primary ballot.

Bird has received $440,000 in campaign contributions since declaring his candidacy according to Public Disclosure Commission records. That total

The same social media post which celebrated Bird’s Republican nomination also contained a link to donate to his campaign. Whether he can close the fundraising gap between himself and his opponents after receiving the Washington GOP’s blessing is unclear.
