WASHINGTON, D.C.-A federal rule that will require firearms dealers to run background checks at gun shows or other places of purchase outside of official stores will soon go into effect after being finalized this week.
The new rule is an effort by the Biden Administration to close a loophole that has allowed guns to be sold by unlicensed dealers that are not required to perform background checks for years at shows and other events.
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), issued a statement on the new background check rule finalized this week, which read in part:
“…this rule will help keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, violent criminals, and other individuals who have no business purchasing firearms—and it takes us one step closer to universal background checks. No doubt, this will save lives.”
