KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – A man was critically injured and transported to the hospital after a single-car crash occurred north of Hayden.

On May 19, around 6:28 a.m., the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KSCO) responded to a call about a single-car crash in the 4000 block of Garwood Road.

KSCO deputies, along with Northern Lakes Fire District, responded to the crash and found the driver of the crashed car was unresponsive.

Deputies said the driver was transported to Kootenai Health with life-threatening injuries.

The KCSO Traffic Unit responded by investigating the scene. Investigators determined that the driver was traveling eastbound on Garwood Road when he left the roadway and struck a power pole.

The driver was identified as Richard Landsiedel of Rathdrum. Landsiedel was the sole occupant of the car and was transported to Kootenai Health in stable but critical condition.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but deputies said that intoxication and speed may be a factor.
