Shaw Middle School goes into lockdown after student was found with a weapon

SPOKANE, Wash. — A middle school was on lockdown after a student was carrying a weapon Tuesday morning.

According to an email from Shaw Middle School, students and staff were on lockdown for about 10 minutes n Tuesday morning while police searched for a student who allegedly had a weapon and eventually left the school building.

On Track Academy, NEWTech, Bemiss Elementary and Regal Elementary entered a Secure and Teach for about ten minutes. There was no immediate danger to students and staff; exterior doors were locked, and staff suspended outdoor activities.

The student suspect was quickly caught and is now in police custody. Parents have been notified of the situation.
