‘She is Vested’ helps Spokane women navigate business challenges

SPOKANE, Wash. – A business in Spokane has created a unique community that invites women in the Inland Northwest to support and empower each other through their business journey.

‘She is Vested’ was revitalized in 2023 when Mercedes Leahy took over and used her own business experience to help other women succeed.

Last year, she hosted 11 networking events with hundreds of women in attendance. The events all aimed at teaching and inspiring women in their own business journey.

Leahy uses her events to teach women how to avoid some of the ‘bumps’ that can come along the way with owning a business. Previous events featured topics like social media strategy, ensuring your business is legally legit, stress management and client experience.

A variety of businesses and ages can be found at the events ranging from bookstores, boutique owners, photographers and even financial planners.

The events feature experienced speakers and female business owners all from the Spokane area who will share insights into the corporate world.

“I think Vested is really important for the women in our community because women make up about 40% of small business owners in the US and yet we only make about 5% of the revenue and there’s only access to about 2% of venture capital for women as well,” Leahy said.

While the events are specially designed for women that own businesses in the Spokane, Leahy says the door is always open for new members who have genius business plans.
