MEAD, Wash. — A woman who was hospitalized with stab wounds following a shooting in the Mead area on Saturday is now set to face charges for the death of her ex.

According to an agency spokesperson, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office will recommend Cynthia Khaleel, 37, face first-degree-murder and other charges in connection to the victim’s death.

Khaleel hasn’t yet gone before a judge.

Deputies found a man dead at a Mead area home early Saturday morning with what they described at the time as clear signs of a struggle. Hospital staff told investigators a woman with non-life-threatening stab wounds after the time the incident would have occurred.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office spokesperson said the victim was “an excessive amount of times” before deputies believe the suspect fled.

According to the spokesperson, a teenage girl was in the home when the altercation began but escaped.

He also noted that Khaleel is the ex-girlfriend of the victim and they’re involved in a custody battle involving a young child they have in common who is different from the teenager who escaped the house.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, Kahleel hadn’t been booked in the Spokane County and was still being treated at a hospital.

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said she was charged with killing her nephew five years ago but was acquitted, something Spokane County court records confirm.

The victim of the shooting hasn’t been named yet, and the Spokane County Medical Examiner will release his name at a later time.
