COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Police have released more details about a gas station shooting on Friday afternoon that left a Spokane man injured.
According to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, . Police said three men were found at the scene and all were detained.
Investigators determined that 18-year-old Fausto Labonte-Lovato, of Spokane, was driven to Coeur d’Alene by a friend to purchase $60 worth of jewelry from 19-year-old Nathaniel Mendenhall after responding to an online ad. The two agreed to meet at the gas station.
Police said Labonte-Lovato took the jewelry and attempted to leave without paying. As Labonte-Lovato and the driver tried to drive away, Mendenhall fired several shots, hitting the driver twice and preventing him from leaving. Officers arrived shortly after the shooting.
Labonte-Lovato was arrested for grand theft and booked into the Kootenai County Jail. Mendenhall was arrested for aggravated battery and aggravated assault and was also booked into the Kootenai County Jail.
Police said the driver is in stable condition at Kootenai Health and is not currently facing any charges.
