SPOKANE, Wash. – The suspect involved in a shooting where three children were found barricaded in a basement near northwest Spokane on Tuesday was identified.

Around 11:20 a.m. on Jan. 2, officers with the Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to reports of a shooting near the 4100 block of West Francis Ave. The caller stated a man was potentially injured, and the suspect went inside a home with a woman and several children.

As SPD arrived on the scene, they immediately entered the home to protect potential victims. 44-year-old Torin Harrington was found and arrested on the scene. SPD also found several children and adults hiding in the basement to protect themselves.

A short distance away, SPD found a man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment; we do not know his status at this time.

SPD said this incident started on New Year’s Eve as a domestic violence incident where Harrington allegedly struck a woman with a firearm, forced her into a car, and drove around the city. The next day, Harrington allegedly returned and burst into the home, shot the male victim, and threatened to shoot others.

Harrington was arrested on four counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree kidnapping.

At this time, Harrington remains in the Spokane County Jail. This incident remains under investigation.
