CHELAN, Wash. – A person was killed in a single-car crash Sunday night on State Highway 97 after driving over an embankment and landing in the Columbia River.
The driver has not been identified but was driving southbound around 9:10 p.m. when they drifted to the right shoulder and overcorrected across the highway causing them to drive over railroad tracks and down into the river.
The driver was driving a red 2013 GMC Sierra, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Washington State Patrol said they were pronounced dead at the scene and noted that it was unknown if they were wearing a seat belt.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. The cause of the crash is still unknown but is being investigated.
